Saturn was realised by being in the right place at the right time, spanning nearly two decades. The simple yet visually striking wooden teak base with its repurposed metal accents was saved from the landfill/bonfire in North London in 2008.
It happened when one of the last remaining engineering shops was due to be demolished, and they had removed and dumped the doors from the building into a skip. Lucky for me. Some years later, in 2022, I was carrying out work at a local dairy where they were replacing their shrink-wrapping machine, as the previous one had met its demise. To my horror, they were about to slice up this amazing stainless steel disc for scrap. Well, I couldn't allow that.
Two years later, Saturn was formed, with its striking lazy Susan abundant in fossilised sea creatures formed millions of years ago in a long-extinct ancient seabed in Morocco.
